The human organism is thought to exist as a physical being only, according to mainstream scientific thought, but widely reported human experiences such and Near-Death-Experience (NDE) and spontaneous Out-Of-Body-Exprience (OBE) challenge this assumption. NDE’s illustrate the ability the human organism has to be conscious even while the physical body and brain is technically dead. Reports by people who are able to describe specific events with great detail and accuracy as they either died and had no reported brain activity or were going in and out of consciousness are not as unique as people may think. This brings us to question what is mind if it is not isolated to the physical brain?
Esotericists and various theological traditions have described the phenomena of mind as existing along side consciousness, as opposed to the idea that mind and consciousness are the same thing. Rather than being one in the same, the mind is what thinks and the consciousness is what can perceive these thoughts. This can be a difficult concept for some people to grasp at first as in order to understand this requires experience observing ones own mind. Meditation illustrates this interaction between mind and consciousness. If you meditate to silence the mind you will begin to notice that many of your thoughts are involuntary and it’s the consciousness that perceives this happening. It can be like watching a film as your thoughts float over the screen of your mind and you perceive these thoughts through your consciousness as a spectator. Although it can be very difficult to tame the mind completely and bring it to a point of silence where you are left with your consciouness, which if done whilst you are falling asleep can take you to the Casual dimension or the sixth dimension, it is possible to use the consciousness in order to project into the Astral dimension or the fifth dimension.
The Astral dimension is the place people experience during OBE’s, NDE’s (often people go here first before they either experience the Underworld or they are taken to the Casual plane, which is the first of the truly spiritual dimensions where darkness cannot penetrate and is where the consciousness resides) and we all go to the Astral plane when we dream. Many people, instead of being somewhat conscious to fully conscious as we are when we lucid dream, are completely unconscious in this realm. It’s kind of like being a sleep-walker here in the physical world. If you manage to astral project it is possible to come across other people who are acting out their dreams as if they are imagining all sorts of things that do not exist. They often look as if the are confused and sometimes physically unstable. This is more likely to occur for individuals who claim that they do not dream at all, as it’s not that they don’t dream but rather that their consciousness is completely asleep and each night they go to the Astral in a zombie like state. But it is possible to go to this dimension consciously by using the consciousness and in doing so we are able to explore not only the Earth but also the Universe and even experience the past through the Akashic Records. The most profound experience I have had with these records was when I asked my inner being to take me to the beginnings of the galaxy. I was taken back to the point where the galaxy was a light blue smoke or cloud like energy and a sound which was the musical note ‘LA’.
Lucid dreaming is a common experience for many people and some people experience this multiple times during their lives. The issue with lucid dreaming a lot of the time is that although a person may realise that they are dreaming whilst in the middle of a dream, they then take this opportunity to use their imagination to create what they wish to experience in the dream. This can be quite fun and enjoyable but it’s a shame really that these opportunities are wasted because those are the times when we have the ability to use the Astral plane to our spiritual advantage. Once we are there we can ask our inner being to teach us something or we can ask to be taken to a specific place or we can call upon a spiritual Master to give us a teaching. Many things exist on this dimension as it can be said to be the crossing point between darkness and light just as our physical world is made up of both darkness and light. Therefor along with the presence of benevolent beings on this plane there are also malevolent beings. Not only that but there are many groups who engage in the Astral plane who claim to be spiritual but are mistaken into thinking it is a spiritual plane and are actually doing their own thing, or are ‘grey’, as they are not in contact with the beings of light or the beings of darkness. This is a common mistake that is made in spirituality, as people believe that since this dimension is above the physical one we experience daily therefor it must be spiritual, much like people believe that experiences with psychedelic drugs are spiritual in nature. It’s not to say that these experiences are invalid or not as real as a clear astral experience but rather that they a merely the experience of another dimension which can for many feel very spiritual since it takes them out of their everyday way of perceiving life. Because psychedelics have this ability they can act as a stepping stone for some people to begin to open up to the possibility of higher and lower dimensions but ultimatley they do not come from a truly spiritual place. This is something one can only understand once they have had a profound experience with the Masters of the Light and can compare it to psychedelic experiences they have had. This is a very unfortunate fact as there as so many people seeking true spirituality that are drawn into these grey areas and because they do experience something beyond this reality they are convinced that must be what a spiritual experience is meant to be. This can also be said for other drugs such as ecstasy – they may make you feel elated and euphoric but they are not giving you true joy. This is why there is always a pay off with these substances – you go up and you come down, whereas an experience of true spiritual joy has no consequence and is not reliant on altering the chemistry of the physical body. I speak from personal experience on this subject and feel that if anyone who believes mind altering substances can create truly spiritual experiences, manages to have a clear spiritual Astral experience with a spiritual being, they will clearly see that there is a big difference between the two, and in that will begin to understand what constitutes the Light, the Grey and the Darkness.
In order to have Astral experiences that serve us spiritually we need to understand that our level of lucidity or the vividness of our dreams correlates directly with how ‘awake’ we are during the day, or rather how aware we are of the world around us in our waking hours. If you make the effort to be more aware then you will begin to have clearer and clearer dreams and if you keep this effort up you will eventually ‘wake up in a dream’ or become lucid. There are many techniques that can be used in order to train your mind to try and realise it is dreaming but there are also many techniques that can be used to deliberately induce an OBE as we fall asleep which is the same as Astral projecting. Once in the Astral plane we can explore it and investigate truths about what is going on the physical world as everything physical has it’s astral counterpart. There is speculation that governments have conducted research to use these psychic abilities to access information and see things that are inaccessible to them in the physical world. This is another indication that the Astral plane is not a spiritual plane but is more so a mirror image of the physical world. The Astral plane is however split into two distinct realms – the lower astral and the higher astral. The lower astral is the realm of emotion and looks much like the physical world whereas the higher astral is the realm of thoughts and ideas and is made up of ‘thought forms’ and at it’s higher frequencies it is perceived as a world made up of colours.
Most people, more often than not when astral projecting, project into the lower astral but it is possible to project to the higher astral if the consciousness is clear enough and someone has the higher bodies needed to do so. These higher solar bodies are built by practicing Sexual Alchemy which can only be done between a man and a woman as it is the same creative force between the masculine and the feminine in the sperm and an egg that creates people, that can be used to create higher spiritual bodies. This energy is known as the creative fire or sexual fire and most people will know what this sexual energy feels like. When the sexual poles of male and female come together the attraction is magnetic, it is the marriage of the duality that creates life just as it can create bodies on higher planes. This is why a baby or small child is an Astral symbol for a higher body. It is this creative energy that our higher bodies sustain themselves on, just as our physical bodies are sustained with food. They can be fed with spiritual exercises also but unless the sexual energy is reserved the higher bodies cannot be used to their full potential and emotions and thoughts will continue to hold powerful sway over a persons consciousness no matter how much they meditate and find peace in that meditation. It is like fighting a never ending battle that you simply will not win. As someone progresses along the path and reveals more and more layers of their subconscious they will find the more powerful the egos are as they go deeper and deeper so even though people may appear to outwardly be very peaceful all the time this is because they have not begun to uncover the subconscious aspects of themselves. It is like peeling back layer after layer, with each successive layer being thinker and tougher than the last, so what is on the surface is not what truly exists within.
It should also be mentioned that astral projecting is not a key to enlightenment but is a tool that helps us to learn more about ourselves and the universe so that we may overcome the hidden parts of us we cannot see unless we explore the Astral plane, where through our dreams we see the buried elements of the subconscious mind and gain profound knowledge through teachings we can receive from advanced spiritual beings or aliens who are trying to help humanity.
Astral Projection Techniques
Below are some fundamental Astral Projection practices that can be practiced as you fall asleep at night. In order for these to be effective for a beginner it is highly recommended that you practice the technique for at least 10 minutes during the day as preparation for the night. It is kind of like warming the Astral body up before the real thing. If it’s a practice that you are new to then you should pick one technique and try to stick to it for a couple weeks until it starts to become boring and the mind tires of it. Every person finds that different things work well for them. Some people are naturally good at visualization and others are much better at concentrating on sound but either way the key to achieving projection is successfully combining concentration with relaxation. So instead of falling asleep normally and being taken away into a dream at the moment of falling asleep we are concentrated, and it is the ability to relax every muscle in the body that induces sleep. I like to think of it as the body falling asleep while the consciousness is still awake, but don’t confuse the consciousness with the mind because it is the mind that creates the dream images.
Relaxing The Body
Relaxing the body completely while trying to project is a surprisingly difficult thing to do and I personally find this has been the main thing that ruins my attempts to project. When I first begun practicing I would find that I was half in my astral body and could see everything around me whilst my physical eyes were closed but was unable to get out of it because I had too much tension in my physical body which kept me locked in it. Often I will find that every part of my body has split except for my head and this is because I’m tensing my face as a result of trying really hard to concentrate. With experience this can be overcome as you learn how the astral body works and you become more accustomed to the feeling of projecting. Practicing relaxation for at least ten minutes a day will help your astral efforts as you should try to relax the body before you begin your projection technique and the more you practice the easier this becomes so that you can spend less time relaxing and more time projecting.
Method ~ Lay on your back and begin to relax your body just as you would to do a mediation. Try to notice areas where you are tense and consciously make an effort to relax them. It can help to tense the specific muscle and then release it a bit like stretching an elastic band and then letting it go. When you are completely relaxed it feels as though you don’t have a body as strange as that sounds.
Heart Beat Concentration
This is the second most successful technique I have used. I do this technique when I feel like I need to be more connected to my heart and intuition.
Method ~ Lay on your back if this is comfortable (this can be difficult to do on your side as when you get it right you can feel as if your heart is beating out of your body). Relax your body and when your ready try to perceive your heart beat. I’ve spoken to people who have said they cannot find their heart beat at first so don’t be discouraged if it seems to not be there or is very faint. It can help to place your hand on your heart for a short while just so that you can get acquainted with the feeling of your heart beating. Once you can hear/feel your heart, concentrate upon it and see if you can feel the beat in the rest of your body. Try not to do this too deliberately as you will take your attention away from your heart. If you can feel it, try and feel your whole body as one heart beat. Eventually you will feel your body beating more and more intensity until all of a sudden you have projected! This can happen differently for different people. For me I usually find that just before I’m about to project it feels as though my body temperature rises slightly and I quite suddenly float out of my body with my head first and my feet last. I know other people have said that they experience it as though with each beat they are lifted out bit by bit until they have completely split. This is a great practice to use because you can literally do it anywhere in order to prepare for the night ahead. It is simply getting in tune with your heart beats so it can be done while your sitting when you have a few spare minutes, whilst traveling or during a break in your day.
Perceiving Dream Images
This is my favorite technique and the one I have had the most success with. I find it difficult to lay on my back and relax my body entirely due to an injury so I like this one because it is easy to do in any sleeping position. It is said that it is easier to project while laying on your back so if you can be comfortable in this position you should first try it before rolling onto your side.
Method ~ Lay down to fall asleep as try to relax your body before you begin. As you lay watch the screen of your mind once you see as dream image immediately try to move but do this without force. It’s hard to explain how this is done as you will find at first that you move physically but eventually you will get it right with enough practice and when you do you’ll find that you have projected into that dream but with an aware consciousness. Once there you can apply the Bellelin conjuration to clear things up.
I have come across many different visualization techniques for Astral Projection over the years. One of the most well known ones is to imagine yourself floating above your body as your falling asleep. I haven’t had success with this technique but as I said different things work for different people. Visualization can be a powerful practice on it’s own as it strengthens our general ability to visualise, which helps immensely once we become better at Astral Projection because with visualization we can instantly teleport to different places such as the Egyptian Pyramids or Stonehenge where sacred places of teaching exist on the Astral.
Method ~ Choose as item that you find interesting to visualize. Common objects that can be used are a candle, a flower or a plant. Look upon the item and when you feel ready close your eyes and try to recreate the image using your imagination. Do your best to hold it there but once it is gone or begins to morph or becomes fuzzy, reopen your eyes to recapture it and close them once again to visualize the item. To use this to project you visualize like this for a while and then when you go to lay down you try to hold that image whilst falling asleep. This practice can also produce profound results regarding the item you have chosen. If you can reach the point of perfect concentration you can access esoteric knowledge regarding the deeper symbolic meaning of the item or substance. This is not knowledge of the mind but of the consciousness and cannot be described in ordinary terms. To give you an example, you may choose to visualize a candle and through this you can gain knowledge about the nature of fire and how it relates to the human experience on a symbolic level.
